Africa's highest peak and iconic summit

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, located in northeastern Tanzania near the border with Kenya. It is a dormant volcanic mountain with three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. The highest peak, Uhuru Peak on Kibo, rises to about 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level, making it one of the world’s most iconic “Seven Summits.”

Kilimanjaro is famous for its snow-capped summit despite being near the equator, creating a unique contrast of climates as climbers ascend through tropical rainforest, heath, alpine desert, and arctic conditions. It is a popular trekking destination because it does not require technical climbing skills, but it still demands good physical fitness due to altitude. The mountain is also part of Kilimanjaro National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its rich biodiversity and stunning natural beauty.
